Make Sense of the Anti- Aging Marketplace

Product RatingNo Ratings

Anyone who has or is actively searching for a new anti-aging skin care regimen has probably run into the same problem.  There are thousands of companies to choose from, each promising it is the best, yet there is very little honest information for consumers to read online.  The key word being honest.  There is plenty of information out there to read, the problem is that so little of it seems credible.  Consumers, unfortunately, are left to their own devices to navigate the marketplace, resulting in costly mistake after costly mistake.  How are we as consumers supposed to use the internet to gather information about which product actually works the best, without running into reviews by those who are intentionally trying to manipulate consumer opinion.

A simple Google search for a wrinkle cream, or an eye gel will bring up thousands of sites, products and opinions on the products.  At first glance, it seems that consumers have all of the information needed to make an educated and well researched decision.  That is until you look at the reviewing sites themselves.  It is here that the problems are actually just beginning for consumers.

Many of the websites out there dedicated to “educating” consumers are really nothing more than an internet marketers way to earn money as an affiliate of the given skin care company that they recommend.  For this reason, their reviews may or may not be honest, or even actual results during a test.  Because there is no way to really know whether or not we can believe the reviews that we read, it is important that we acknowledge this information and use our own intuition to make our decision.

So what does that mean?  We just throw a dart and start the trial and error process?  No.  There is a good deal of information that can be taken from these review sites, just not the opinion.  For example these sites can provide you with information on how the product works, or the active ingredients used in the treatment.  More importantly, you may find that the LACK of this information tells a story all in itself.

When a skin care company pushes a celebrity endorsement, or a free trial at you to get you to overlook the obvious lack of scientific documentation that their product works, it is usually for a reason.  We would like to think that we would not fall for such a ploy as consumers, but thousands do so every single day.  The truth is that the easiest way to find a product, or product line that works is to try to find what the active ingredients are, what their concentrations are and literally how it affects the skin to provide the result you desire.

Many skin care companies will have a page dedicated to “how it works” or the “science behind the products” but when you actually go read those pages, there is very little information to offer.  Things like rare melons sound nice to consumers, but how does that rare melon treat your skin. What will it do, how long will that take, honestly, etc.?  A company that is confident in the products that they manufacture WANTS you to have that information, they do not try to hide it, or keep it a secret.  Search for clinical studies of the products or active ingredients directly on the manufacturers website.  You will be shocked to find how few companies have that kind of faith in their products.  They feel that they have a better chance of earning your business, by hiding the facts from you.  That should tell you all you need to know about the product, and move on with your search.

Now, just because a company shows you the science behind the product or hides it from you does not mean that the product does or does not work for you.  What it will do, however, is take a very large list of potential products and condenses it to a much smaller list to choose from.  And it vastly increases your chances of finding a winner.

Once your list has been narrowed down to just a few companies, you can read the testimonials and look at the before and after pictures, and feel more confident you are making the right choice.  Unfortunately there is no way to 100% guarantee that a product will work for you, but you can avoid a lot of costly mistakes by following this process.
