Offline Advertisments Affect Anti-Aging E-Commerce

The notion of offline advertising being new to the skin care industry is obviously ridiculous. Skin care products have been featured in magazines, television, newspapers, and in store fronts since women began purchasing them. When online shopping became popular it was strange for consumers to go online to purchase the latest products, clearly times have changed. The internet is responsible for the vast majority of niche skin care product sold today, and it shows no evidence of slowing down. Why then are e-commerce experts raising the questions about the role that offline advertising has had on online skin care shopping?
The internet has changed everything. In the past, the companies with the deepest pockets were the brands that were household names. Consumers went to the store looking for products that they read about in papers, magazines or saw on TV. But when the internet came about, all of a sudden consumers were able to seek out hundreds, even thousands of skin care products and even read reviews about which ones are the best.
Now for clarification purposes, we are discussing primarily niche related skin care products. The best wrinkle creams, eye gels and anti-aging treatments. Day to day skin care products are still sold primarily though storefronts, be it grocery, department or drug stores. Items like wrinkle creams and eye gels, because they lend themselves towards the vanity of men and women, are often far more expensive items to purchase, and therefore more carefully considered.
Nowadays, when consumers are interested in purchasing an item, they seek out the help of search engines, forums and review sites. These consumer tools are there as a resource to help educate and inform consumers of the benefits and pitfalls of certain products. It is a tremendous amount of information at your fingertips, but what happens if that information becomes compromised? Or the search engines become overwhelmed by websites dedicated to review the products with massive television marketing campaigns?
Well it becomes a problem, for consumers at least, as a simple search for wrinkle cream overwhelms the consumer with so much information about one or two products, that the market becomes unbalanced. Where consumers could once review hundreds of products, they now find themselves having to spend far more time to just to find reviews that they can trust, or that cover more than just a few products. No one claims that this is anything other than companies taking advantage of the landscape of the marketplace, but it is the consumers who suffer.
Our economy has always been based upon competition, so this is nothing new. But when you balance the number of consumers who are unhappy with their last anti-aging skin care purchase and the flooding of search engines with products and reviews, it becomes obvious that something needs to give. For consumers, that means they must take on the job of finding the best wrinkle treatments on their own, it will no longer be as simple as just a few clicks, and reading some reviews. Make sure you are diligent, because your results depend on it.
